About Us
We began in 2007 as a group of racers and paddling enthusiasts who formed the Allegheny River Competitive Paddlers. We actively promote paddling events and endeavor to get people interested in the sport, and we compete at races across a large area of our state and beyond. Check out our ARCP website. It contains hundreds of photos of local racers and events we have attended.

For years we have enjoyed seeing J & J’s Canoe supply trailer at races. Once we
realized they had retired this service, we decided to purchase their trailer and fill that
void. So, “if you forgot it, we got it!”
Staff
Teresa Stout: Owner
Teresa is a mother of five and just had
her first new little baby grandson. She
teaches gym and swimming at the
elementary level as a substitute. She is
a yoga instructor and avid runner.
Teresa has been active in canoe racing
for 30 years. She is a veteran of 13
General Clinton 70 milers, 7
Adirondack 90 milers, the Yukon 1000
miler, lots of USCA Nationals, and
many other races.
Paul Gruber: Manager
Paul was an active canoe racer from 1977
to 1986 then took 21 years off as his
children became involved in other sports
and activities. He did however continue
to paddle recreationally with them. He
became re-interested in racing as the
USCA Nationals kept coming to Warren,
Pa. his home town. In 2007 he re-entered
the racing world in a solo touring kayak and
C-2 at his 16 year old daughter Miranda’s
request, with her as a partner. Paul has
competed in K-1 and C-2 ever since.
Mark Kopta: Building and Repair
A carpenter by trade, Mark works
wonders building and repairing
boats. Mark has raced canoes
with his daughter Amy and his
son Craig back when they were
in their teens, over ten years ago.
They participated in the Adirondack
90 miler and General Clinton 70.
He then took time away from racing,
but now he has now re-entered the
sport mostly teaming with his
nephew, Fran Kopta.
Miranda Gruber: Designs
Miranda is a very talented artist. Her
contributions led to the development
of our logos, banners, and business
cards. At just 16 years of age Miranda
convinced her father (Paul) to enter the
2007 USCA Nationals 500 Meter Sprints
in the C-2 Adult/Junior Class. She paddled
bow in that race as they finished fifth of five.
Undaunted, she pressed that they become
regular partners and attend more races in
2008. In 2009 Miranda moved from bow to
stern and has become outstanding there.
She has entered several K-1 races and
regularly places high.
